Dryllerakis & Associates

Professional notice

Also in the second tier is Dryllerakis & Associates. Name partner John Dryllerakis sat on the competition commission's committee between 1990 and 1995 and was in-house counsel at Esso during the 1970s.

Two further partners and one associate work with Dryllerakis on competition matters, making up almost a fifth of the firm's 21 lawyers. The other lawyers have a range of business law practices, from arbitration to securities and intellectual property.

Dryllerakis says that in the past two-and-a-half years, they were 'involved in most of the big cases'. As well as advising on the Shell cartel case, he is working for the Athens Port Authority. The authority is fighting claims that a contract offering privileged terms to a shipping company, MSE, in exchange for certain usage of a container terminal, is abuse of dominance. The commission has threatened fines of up to €5 million. Dryllerakis is also defending one of the alleged conspirators in the supermarkets cartel, which is now before the state counsel.
