Cornerstone Research is known for both quality and quantity: it has competition economists with the specialist expertise necessary to succeed in the challenging field, as well as the sheer numbers required to rake in a huge range of cross-border transactions and interesting litigation matters.

Eight offices in both the US and Europe hold 141 competition economists, led by global co-heads Rahul Guha and Andrea Shepard; she was one of the few economists selected for GCR’s Women in Antitrust 2016. Peter Davis, who joined last year from Compass Lexecon, meanwhile leads the European competition group. These three, as well as four other partner-level economists, are recognised by Who’s Who Legal: Competition.
The past year saw the consultancy advise clients in 19 mergers across sectors including healthcare, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, media, entertainment and energy. When it comes to litigation, Cornerstone Research also has the bench strength; they advised clients, including joint defence groups, facing allegations related to LIBOR and foreign exchange derivatives, and were involved in matters that alleged anticompetitive vertical and horizontal conduct in a range of industries; the firm says in many of those cases, they provided advice to clients at both the class certification stage and later on the merits of the case. Despite the complexity of the intersection between antitrust and intellectual property, the consultancy does not back down; it is currently involved in several cases involving standard essential patents.
