Affleck Greene McMurtry antitrust practice dates back to 1992 and three partners who left Fasken Martineau to set up a litigation boutique. Since then other litigation specialist shops have popped up, but practice head W Michael G Osborne says Affleck is the only one to offer the full menu of competition work. Cartel and class action defence is their bread and butter, though. Osborne and partner Michael Binetti are busy with auto parts and optical disk drives and are counsel to the leniency applicant in a bid-rigging trial in Ontario. They also advised Royal Bank of Scotland on the bureau’s Libor investigation. On the civil side, founder and partner emeritus Donald Affleck is defending the Toronto Real Estate Board against an abuse-of-dominance lawsuit from the bureau, now before the Competition Tribunal.
