With four Who’s Who Legal nominees and a plethora of high-profile work, Yulchon maintains its status as an elite competition law practice. Practice co-head Sai Ree Yun is highly regarded among his peers, and he leads the group with Hae Sik Park, a former Supreme Court judge. The firm added more judicial experience last year, with former Seoul Administrative Court judge Sang Hyean Gwack joining.

The firm is very active on the behavioural front, perhaps most significantly representing four companies – GS E&C, Hyundai Development, POSCO E&C and Kyungnam Enterprises – in the “Four Rivers” construction bid-rigging investigation, an extremely high-profile matter. Yulchon also successfully represented seven BMW dealers over allegations of collusion; the Supreme Court overturned the KFTC’s ruling and fines.

Yulchon also represented LG U+, one of Korea’s largest mobile carriers, in an investigation by the KFTC over alleged abuse of dominance. The case was closed without any infringement finding or penalties. The firm also represented several complainants in the abuse of dominance fines issued to Intel and Qualcomm; their appeals were dismissed by Seoul’s High Court. Merger work is steady; Yulchon recently advised Lotte Shopping in its acquisition of Hi Mart for 1.25 trillion won.
