Mannheimer Swartling

Professional notice

Sweden

Large, effective and ambitious, Mannheimer Swartling is widely acknowledged to be among the best firms in Sweden. Practice heads Tommy Pettersson and Johan Carle are both Who’s Who Legal nominees. Carle says in five years he wants the team to grow by 50 per cent and have at least two more partners – hopefully leading to the firm working more with large Swedish companies that currently use foreign lawyers. Brussels partner Stefan Perván Lindeborg recently returned to Stockholm; however, the firm maintains an office in Europe’s capital.

Carle is representing steel producer SSAB in its 6 billion Swedish kronor acquisition of Finnish rival Rautaruukki. The deal was notified in various jurisdictions including the EU. The firm represents Pernod Richard against the state alcohol monopoly Systembolaget, which challenged an arbitral award finding that it abused its dominance. The case is now on appeal at the Supreme Court.

Mannheimer is acting for tobacco company Swedish Match in an abuse of dominance investigation and BONG in the Commission’s cartel investigation of the packing and envelope sector. It also advises private healthcare company Capio in a case before the Stockholm District Court about the rules on subcontracting clinical physiology services.
