With a range of high-profile work and close ties to top international firms, Russell McVeagh remains a leading competition group in New Zealand. The practice is headed by Who’s Who Legal nominee Sarah Keene after former co-head Andrew Peterson departed for the bar in June, but Keene says the firm continues to work with Peterson in his new role.
A significant matter on Russell McVeagh’s books over the past year was the refrigerator compressor cartel investigation, in which Keene represented Whirlpool; the company agreed a settlement. Other work includes advising packaging manufacturer Pact Group in its acquisition of rival Linpac, which was reviewed by both the New Zealand and Australian authorities, and advising Citigroup and Vivendi on the New Zealand aspects of selling EMI’s recorded music business to Universal Music.
Other major clients include Lion Group, Telecom New Zealand and Visy Industries.
