France

Founded 21 years ago by brothers Louis and Joseph Vogel, competition boutique Vogel & Vogel has the largest practice in Paris, comprising 35 antitrust specialists. The group is made up of eight specialist counsel and 25 associates. The brothers remain the only partners at the firm, with Joseph Vogel nominated to Who’s Who Legal.

The firm advised Primagaz in Competition Authority proceedings over alleged cartel activity and collective abuse of dominance. The matter was closed after the authority found key elements of a leniency application were forgeries, and that there was no proof of infringement.

Telecoms work has been plentiful. The firm represented Bouygues Telecom in a successful appeal at the Court of Cassation against claims of price discrimination from France Telecom and Orange. The firm also acted for Bouygues in an abuse of dominance claim against France Telecom and Orange related to markets in the French Caribbean.

On the mergers side, Vogel & Vogel handled banking group BFCM’s takeover of Est Républican, one of France’s largest regional press groups; it was cleared with conditions. The firm is proud of its reputation in the media sector. Meanwhile, Vogel & Vogel also acted for Beaumanoir Group in its acquisition of clothing company La City Group, which was cleared in March.

Established in France in 1990, Vogel and Vogel currently employs 35 lawyers. It specialises in EU and French competition law, distribution law, consumer law, and is active in French, European and international business base. The firm is known for being the largest competition team on the market and for its high-level of know-how across a broad spectrum of competition distribution and consumer activity. Vogel & Vogel is also well-known for its broad experience in all matters concerning the automotive industry.

At a European level, the firm advises and represents clients on matters of competition law, selective distribution agreements, validity of exclusive distribution contracts, supply agreements, franchise and agency contracts, actions based on article 101 or 102 of the Treaty, and coordinates mergers notifications.

In France, the firm advises and represents clients on matters such as abuse of dominant positions or economic dependence, rules on buying power, mergers, general conditions of sales, bankruptcy law, intellectual property, misleading advertising, product liability, and criminal responsibility of directors.
