Mannheimer Swartling

Professional notice

Sweden

Mannheimer Swartling’s practice heads Tommy Pettersson and Johan Carle remain in charge of one of the largest and most experienced antitrust and competition practices in Sweden. The team handles the full range of competition law cases and, bolstered by its Brussels office, has no problem switching gears and advising clients locked into merger, cartel or dominance investigations before DG Comp.

The firm says it has seen a significant rise in dawn raids associated with cartel investigations over the past year; indeed, it has been involved in no fewer than 11 raids for clients over the past 12 months - raids that often turn into long-term defence work. Most of those investigations are carried out by DG Comp, the firm says. Clients include Trioplast Industrier in the commission’s industrial bags cartel investigation; Telenor in an investigation by the Competition Authority surrounding mobile telecommunications operators; and Heidelberg Cement in a DG Comp cartel probe.

The firm says the pace of deals and other transactions crossing lawyers’ desks also continues unabated. The team advised dary company Milko in its merger with Arla Foods - a deal currently in Phase 2 before the authority - and Swedish Post in its tie-up with the Danish postal service. That matter is the first cross-border postal service merger in the EU and was eventually cleared subject to conditions. Telenor Group is another client, requiring advice in its joint ownership with TV4 of premium pay-television operator C More. Other clients include E.ON, Cardo, ASSA ABLOY, Europe Investor Direct, Kia MotorsDirektflyg and many others.
