Partner Mani Reinert leads Bär & Karrer's competition practice, supported by two associates and two of counsel.

The Zurich-based team focuses more than two thirds of its time on cartel and advisory work, and the rest on merger control. Of counsel Marc Blessing handles EC competition law and arbitration-related competition matters.

The firm is representing UBS in a case involving credit card interchange fees. It is representing a company in the construction sector in an investigation of alleged price fixing and market sharing by the commission, and a company under investigation for alleged illegal information exchange.

Last year's merger transactions include acting for Sulzer in its sale of Sulzer Immobilien to Implenia, and International Petroleum Investment Company in its acquisition of AIG Private Bank.

in connection with cartels, vertical and horizontal cooperation as well as the abuse of a dominant position. Bär & Karrer has been involved in many high profile cases such as various proceedings regarding interchange fees for credit and debit card transactions or alleged cartels in the construction industry. Bär & Karrer was also involved in the first dawn raid carried out by the Swiss Competition Commission.

In addition, Bär & Karrer routinely represents clients in merger control filings with the Swiss Competition Commission. For example, Bär & Karrer was involved in the leading case regarding vertical mergers where it obtained clearance in phase I.
