Alrud has a reputed competition practice, with a total of 12 lawyers working on antitrust matters. Senior partner and Who's Who nominee Vassily Rudomino leads the practice, which he says has been "significantly strengthened" in recent years.
He is a co-founder and a head of the partnership council for competition support in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Partner Alexander Zharskiy focuses on competition in the banking and finance markets. Both are members of several FAS expert competition councils, including in the financial services, oil, and retail markets. Lawyer German Zakharov is the latest addition to the team, joining early in 2010 from the FAS's cartel department.
Rudomino says that over the past year, work has centred on multinational transactions. The firm advised Silverlake investment fund on the acquisition of Skype from eBay. It also represented Commerzbank Eurasija on its global merger with Dresdner Bank. Other competition clients include Unilever, Russian ice cream company Inmarko and car manufacturer Fiat.
