The team has strong expertise in antitrust litigation and has acted on lots of complex and ground-breaking cases. For example, the team is currently representing the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) to respond to the first administrative proceedings against the antitrust punishment made by SAMR, and representing Hitachi Metals in the antitrust litigation where the application of the essential facilities doctrine to non-SEPs was discussed for the first time. The team successfully represented Sinopec, the nation’s largest oil refiner, in Yingding v Sinopec which was the first antitrust lawsuit against a state-owned oil company in China and represented Panasonic in a case brought by its distributors over an alleged monopoly agreement.

The team has industry-leading experience in handling antitrust investigations launched by competition enforcement authorities. Relevant industry sectors include but are not limited to digital platforms, semiconductors, manufacturing, chemistry, dairy, insurance, automobile, utility, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products. For instance, the team has advised a leading Chinese internet “super” platform on how to respond to SAMR’s investigation over abuse of market dominance which was the most influential case in 2021.

The team assists lots of domestic and overseas clients with merger control filings in China. For example, the team secured the clearance for ChemChina’s US $43 billion acquisition of Syngenta in 2017 and the US $48 billion concentration between China Ping An Insurance Group and New Founder Group in 2021 which was one of the largest takeovers in China. Specially, AnJie has extensive experience in dealing with remedy cases. For example, the team secured the conditional clearance from SAMR for GlobalWafers’s acquisition of Siltronic in 2022.
