The practice is best known for its experience in:
Defending clients before the Competition Commission of India, and the appellate forums, against cartel and abuse of dominance allegations concerning complex economic assessment and antitrust theories of harm; and
Complex merger control cases, with a focus on strategic transactions including Phase II investigations.
The national practice head, Nisha Kaur Uberoi, led the Trilegal competition practice, to become the first Indian competition practice to win the prestigious ‘Regional Firm of the Year – Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa’ award at the Annual GCR Awards in 2020. Nisha is the first Indian lawyer to win global ‘Dealmaker of the Year’ award at the 11th Annual Global Competition Review (GCR) Awards 2021 for her work advising on complex merger transactions aggregating USD 150 billion. Nisha was also the only competition lawyer across the world to be nominated under two categories, i.e., “Lawyer of the Year” and “Dealmaker of the Year” in GCR Awards 2020.
The Trilegal competition practice obtained the CCI’s unconditional approval in Peugeot’s USD 50 billion merger with Fiat, which was recognized as “Matter of the year” by the GCR at the 11th Annual GCR Awards 2021. The Trilegal competition practice also represented Wabco Holdings Inc. in relation to its USD 8.3 billion acquisition by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, which was recognized as “Merger Control Matter of the Year – Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa” by the GCR at the 11th Annual GCR Awards 2021.
Nisha currently serves as India’s non-governmental adviser for the International Competition Network. She is internationally recognised as one of India’s leading competition lawyers, including being recognised by Chambers (Band 1), Who’s Who Legal Thought Leaders in Competition 2021, Who’s Who Legal: Competition, IFLR1000, Asialaw Leading Lawyers and Euromoney’s Women in Business Law. She has also featured in Asian Legal Business’ inaugural Asia 40 under 40 and GCR 100 Women in Antitrust, as well in the A-list of India’s top 100 lawyers by India Business Law Journal and Indian Corporate Counsel Association. She was awarded the coveted award of the Women Lawyer of the Year (Law Firm) by Asia Legal Business at the ALB India Law Awards 2020.
