The firm’s professionals are set to further increase in number following AnJie’s merger with Broad & Bright.

AnJie houses a competition law practice recognized for best-in-class legal work, and has stood at the forefront of Chinese competition law for close to a decade. Legal Band and The Legal 500 recommend AnJie as a Tier 1 Law Firm in Antitrust/Competition (2019–2021). For nine consecutive years, AnJie lawyers have been ranked by Chambers & Partners as “Recommended Competition/Antitrust Lawyers.”

The team includes Dr. Zhan Hao, Ms. Song Ying, and other partners and associates, covering all manner of antitrust-related matters in China. The managing partner, Dr. Zhan Hao, is recommended as a Tier 1 Antitrust/Competition Lawyer within China (2009–2021) and serves as regional ambassador for China to the ICC Commission on Competition. Ms. Song Ying is a recommended PRC Antitrust/Competition Lawyer (2017–2021) and Top 15 PRC Female Lawyer (2020).

AnJie’s antitrust and competition practise provides strategic advice to an international and Chinese client base. As one of the most experienced and highly acclaimed antitrust and competition teams in China, AnJie delivers an expansive range of antitrust and competition law-related services and regularly represents international and local clients alike on matters including antitrust and competition litigation, investigations, merger control, and antitrust and competition compliance.

The team has strong expertise in antitrust litigation and has acted on some of China’s most complex and ground-breaking cases. These include the first administrative proceedings against the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), as well as the first application of the essential facilities doctrine involving non-SEPs, the Hitachi Metals case (both first and second instance). The team successfully represented Sinopec, the nation’s largest oil refiner, in Yingding v Sinopec; the first antitrust lawsuit against a state-owned oil company in China. The team also represented Panasonic in a case brought by its distributors over an alleged monopoly agreement. Currently, the team is active in competition cases involving the digital platform economy.

AnJie’s competition team has industry-leading experience in handling antitrust investigations launched by competition enforcement authorities. Relevant industry sectors include but are not limited to digital platforms, semiconductors, manufacturing, chemistry, dairy, insurance, automobile, utility, pharmaceuticals and consumer products. For instance, the team has advised a leading Chinese internet “super” platform on how to respond to SAMR’s investigation over abuse of market dominance.

AnJie also regularly assists domestic and overseas clients with merger control filings in China. For example, the team secured clearance for ChemChina’s US $43 billion acquisition of Syngenta in 2017. In addition, the team successfully obtained unconditional clearance from SAMR for the US $48 billion concentration between China Ping An Insurance Group and New Founder Group; one of the largest takeovers in China. With its extensive experience and expertise, the team also has clients, including large state-owned enterprises and renowned domestic and multinational companies, across a wide range of other industry sectors. These include the TMT, shipping, energy, transportation, machinery, electronics, textile, aviation, software, and healthcare sectors. Moreover, AnJie’s frequent and seamless cooperation with international law firms allows it to effectively assist clients with cross-border and foreign transactions and disputes.
