Francisco Fuentes and Pilar Mata lead the nine-lawyer team at MIJARES ANGOITIA CORTÉS Y FUENTES SC. The group is representing a pair of Mexican credit report entities, TransUnion de Mexico and Dun & Bradstreet Mexico, against COFECE. The enforcer accused TransUnion of price discrimination and Dun & Bradstreet of an illegal refusal to deal with another credit report company. The firm brought TransUnion and two of its senior executives through the probe without charges, but the agency found Dun & Bradstreet liable in a decision the company is now appealing. The firm acts for Servicio Pan Americano de Proteccion during an investigation of potential monopolistic practices in the market for vaults, armoured car transportation, money processing and the long-distance transportation of valuables. COFECE fined the company for price-fixing, client allocation and exchange of competitively sensitive information.
Mijares advised SPV on its purchase of a 90% stake in two photovoltaic projects owned by Eosol – which required a complex restructuring – and Citigroup on its agreement to distribute Chubb’s non-life insurance products. The firm acted for transportation company Fultra and private equity firm Alta Growth Capital on its purchase of trailer manufacturer Fruehauf de Mexico, and for Grupo Televisa in ex post merger control proceeding before the Federal Telecommunications Institute.
Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes, was founded in 1994, integrating a team of highly qualified lawyers focused on offering professional, sophisticated and quality legal services to satisfy its clients’ business needs. Today, as a leading firm in the Mexican market, its level of expertise is well-recognized in various practice areas. Deeply committed to quality and responsiveness, the firm has consolidated its status as one of the preeminent Mexican Law firms.
The Firm’s Antitrust and Competition Practice handles all aspects of antitrust and competition law matters. Our team has expertise in merger control and filings before the competition authorities, investigations and high-stake antitrust litigation. The Firm acts as strategic advisor in cases related to cartels, abuse of dominance and sector investigations. The team is well-known for successfully challenging rulings and resolutions before the Federal Competition Commission (COFECE), the Federal Telecommunications Institute (FTI), and the Mexican Federal Courts.
The Firm has one of the strongest antitrust and competition teams on the Mexican market and is frequently involved in complex and strategically important M&A transactions with an antitrust component. Our antitrust and competition capabilities contribute to our transactional strength, as we are able to integrate competition aspects into the overall deal strategy. Our team also benefits from having a specialized group of antitrust litigators, allowing us to advise clients in all stages of monopolistic practice procedures and contentious defense.
We represent a portfolio of high-profile domestic and international clients, most notably in the Telecoms, Energy, Transport, Financial Services, IT, and Food & Beverage sectors, and act alongside international law firms for global companies investing or operating in Mexico.
Our antitrust and competition team is regarded by clients, regulators and international law firms as one of the leading competition practices in the country. Our practice is recognized by the leading legal directories and has been included in Global Competition Review’s GCR100 list for many years.
Partners Francisco Fuentes-Ostos and Pilar Mata Fernández lead the antitrust team at MACF. The team also includes four associates and three part time law clerks.
