E.CA Economics

The consultancy group at E.CA Economics may be small in size, but the entire firm devotes itself completely to all things antitrust. The firm has been active in more than 65 cases, spanning over 12 different jurisdictions and further strengthening its international footprint, and maintains its long-term partnerships with ESMT Berlin and Bates White.

The firm has been involved in merger cases before the European Commission and national authorities in Germany, Austria, Benelux and the UK. E.CA successfully advised Telefónica’s cable wholesale agreement with Vodafone as part of a remedy concession for the Vodafone/ Unitymedia tie-up. In other merger work, the firm provided building materials companies Knauf International and Armstrong World Industries with market definition and competitive assessments for their merger, which was conditionally approved by the EU Commission following a Phase I investigation.

E.CA is advising several railway companies on competition and state aid matters. The firm has been working on the assessment of the competitive risks of new price models. In another engagement, E.CA has assessed the level of an appropriate return within state aid proceedings.

The group is also working on damage assessments on behalf of one of the defendant parties in a case including alleged abuse of collective dominance in the TV advertising market, as well as advising an e-commerce platform on potential theories of harm and related efficiencies regarding information exchange between platform operator/retailer and marketplaces.
