The Competition practice was started and is headed by Vinod Dhall, formerly the first Chairman (actg) of the Competition Commission of India (CCI). It is one of the oldest competition law practices in India. With effect from June 2013, Vinod Dhall and Talwar Thakore & Associates (“TT&A”) entered into a collaboration that combines Vinod Dhall’s competition law practice with TT&A’s corporate and finance practice.
The Competition Practice is recognised for its in-depth knowledge of competition law and policy and for providing high quality services to its clients. It is providing legal advice to or representing several leading Indian business houses and multinational firms active in India. The practice has represented clients in some of the biggest acquisition deals in India and has also been involved in high-profile antitrust matters before the CCI as well the appellate authorities. Given the nature of the work, it has developed special expertise in certain sectors e.g. pharmaceuticals, media, broadcasting, petrochemicals, and manufacturing.
The firm has a “best-friends” arrangement with the internationally acclaimed global law firm, Linklaters LLP. This arrangement allows the firm to draw on Linklaters’ global knowledge base, experience, service standards and best practices.
The practice is highly regarded by the CCI and Vinod Dhall along with his team worked closely with the CCI Mergers Division to assist it in the challenging task of drafting CCI’s first divestment order in the Sun Pharma-Ranbaxy merger case.
