A conversation with Deborah Feinstein

14 December 2015

At GCR Live’s annual New York conference earlier this autumn, Deborah Feinstein, the head of the US Federal Trade Commission’s bureau of competition, gave around 20 minutes of prepared remarks on the agency’s case against the Sysco/US Foods tie-up. Then, she did what few public officials anywhere agree to: she took an hour of questions, both from the panel at GCR Live and from audience members. The result was a kind of impromptu roundtable discussion examining modern merger enforcement at the FTC, from the agency’s willingness to engage with parties and negotiate remedies, to the evidence it looks for before going to court to challenge a deal.
