The Handbook of Competition Enforcement Agencies 2015

United Kingdom

The UK Enforcement Agencies The establishment of a new UK competition authority, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), was the most significant development of 2014. The CMA combines the competition functions of the old Office of Fair Trading (OFT) and Competition Commission (CC) into a single agency, which became fully operational on 1 April 2014. This development marked the end of the long-standing UK practice of splitting first and second-phase merger and market reviews between two separate bodies.
