Slovakia: Antimonopoly Office

15 July 2015

The Antimonopoly Office of the Slovak Republic (AMO) is the central state administration body of the Slovak Republic (SR) established for the purpose of protection and promotion of competition and its further development. The AMO’s competencies result from the Act No. 136/2001 Coll. on Protection of Competition, as amended (the Competition Act). Besides Slovak competition law, the AMO also applies European law under Council Regulation (EC) No. 1/2003 of 16 December 2002 on the Implementation of the Rules on Competition laid down in Articles 81 and 82 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). The AMO is mainly responsible for conducting investigations of a relevant market; it adjudicates administrative proceedings deciding on cases of agreements restricting competition, abuse of dominant position, merger control and restriction of competition by state administration and local administration authorities; and it also proposes measures to protect and promote competition.
