Italy: Competition Authority

15 July 2015

I would define 2014 and the current year as a time of consolidation for the Italian Competition Authority (ICA) during which its standing and reputation have considerably increased, along with its enforcement and advocacy records. Increased qualitative standards of the ICA’s enforcement activity have been confirmed by the positive results of judicial review: in 2014, eight out of 10 decisions reviewed by the Council of State were upheld. At the same time, our advocacy efforts are proving increasingly effective: the government has recently drafted a comprehensive Law for Competition following the ICA’s suggestions.
