In the last issue of Global Competition Review, Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic claimed that the British Airways/American Airways alliance would run counter to consumers’ interests. Robert Ayling, chief executive of British Airways, opposes Branson’s view. British Airways says its alliance with AA would be in line with similar alliances throughout Europe, and that it will in fact provide more choice and lower fares for passengers. David Holmes, Director of corporate resources, explains BA’s position.
