Happy Sherman Act anniversary: The Tipline for 2 July 2019
Exactly 129 years ago today, President Benjamin Harrison signed the Sherman Act into law. The act was the first federal law to ban monopolistic business practices in the US and was passed by a 51-1 Senate vote in April 1890 and a unanimous 242-0 vote by the House of Representatives in June. Speaking of the Sherman Act, the Writers Guild of America is facing yet another lawsuit in a string of complaints that allege the labour union violated federal antitrust law by coordinating an illegal group boycott against talent agencies.
