Tied at 14: The Tipline for 2 December 2021
Most members of the Senate Commerce Committee declined to ask Alvaro Bedoya questions during his confirmation hearing last month. So it was not abundantly clear on Wednesday why 14 members voted against advancing his nomination as a member of the Federal Trade Commission. Some Republicans, like former FTC official Ted Cruz, harped on tweets Bedoya made that were critical of the Trump Administration’s immigration policies. If Cruz wants Bedoya to stay away from immigration policy, confirming him to an agency in charge of competition and consumer protection might actually be a good move.
