Refusing to settle: The Tipline for 25 January 2022
Jonathan Kanter’s first address as head of the Department of Justice’s antitrust division started just like many from his predecessor: with admiration for Robert Jackson. That’s where the comparisons end. Kanter said the division should seek to outright block most mergers it believes will substantially lessen competition. “Settlements do not move the law forward,” he said before the New York State Bar Association. Also in Tipline, the division seeks top trial talent and Zephyr Teachout joins the Empire State.
