Merger high tide: The Tipline for 15 September 2021
Installing a Democratic majority at the Federal Trade Commission has undoubtedly shifted the agency to the ideological left. But leadership has credited some of the most notable policy changes to a surge in merger filings rather than a change in views. Letters “warning” against merger consummation and the “temporary” hibernation of early terminations came first. Now, the agency is citing a surge in filings for streamlining the process for compelling documents in antitrust probes involving intellectual property, common ownership and monopolisation.
