Fork in the road: The Tipline for 11 March 2021
The State of Texas et al allege that Google and Facebook agreed to “cooperate and assist” each other with respect to any antitrust probe of an agreement related to certain advertising bidding. Yet the two companies have taken divergent paths in responding to the federal government’s monopolisation lawsuits. Google opted to answer the Department of Justice’s complaint late last year while Facebook has now moved to dismiss the Federal Trade Commission’s “nonsensical” claims. Also in Tipline, Merrick Garland is confirmed in the Senate as lawmakers reintroduce a pair of antitrust bills.
