There are plenty of folks who want to permanently shut out the lights at the Federal Trade Commission, which is why the agency’s public messaging is so important. Many Americans will see headlines today describing the agency’s effort to block a $40 billion chip merger, likely picturing the commission ensuring their BBQ or Sour Cream-drenched snacks stay tasty. That’s certainly an easier sell than protecting competition for semiconductors.
