Walmart’s consumer protection paradox: The Tipline for 29 June 2022
President Biden’s selection of the author of Amazon’s Antitrust Paradox to lead the Federal Trade Commission might have initially brought joy to the nation’s second-largest online retailer, but Walmart now finds itself on the opposite side of the “v”. The commission has sued Walmart for allegedly failing to protect consumers using its money transfer services from fraud. Walmart, in turn, issued a scathing 3,200-word press release critical of Chair Lina Khan and the enforcer at large. Also in Tipline, the FTC loses a merger shop official to an in-house position and a bipartisan group of senators want to talk baseball.
