Sex sells. Apparently, unsexy does too. The Wall Street Journal described Broadcom’s proposed acquisition of VMware as “a $61 billion bet on unsexy software”. That is not to say the US antitrust agencies don’t take an interest in boring-sounding deals. Veracruz and Crane Composites called off their merger on Thursday after the Department of Justice alleged the transaction would create a monopoly for pebbled fibreglass reinforced plastic wall panels.
