Women are underrepresented in the judiciary, making up only about one-third of the active federal bench. Today, however, female federal appellate court judges Janice Brown, M Margaret McKeown and Reena Raggi all celebrate their anniversaries of being appointed to the bench. Judge Brown, now retired, wrote for the majority on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in 2008 as it reversed a lower court’s denial of a preliminary injunction for the Federal Trade Commission in its quest to block Whole Foods/Wild Oats. Judge Margaret McKeown of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit wrote for the majority when denying a new trial to an AU Optronics executive implicated in the liquid crystal display cartel. Judge Raggi joined her colleagues on the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in upholding the 2018 dismissal of a Department of Justice complaint against two music performing rights organisations.
