It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. For Standard & Poor, at least. On Wednesday, the credit rating agency saw its S&P 500 index rise three percentage points – its largest jump since 2020. But the Department of Justice’s antitrust division has suggested that proposed changes to how S&P rates insurance bonds rated by its rivals may run afoul of the Sherman Act.
