Sisterly love: The Tipline for 13 February 2020

The Federal Trade Commission squares off against Qualcomm today in a California appellate court, where the chipmaker seeks a reversal of a lower court ruling that found its “no licence, no chip” policy violated federal antitrust law. But the commission will also face its sister agency in the courtroom as the Department of Justice’s antitrust division argues the remedies levied against Qualcomm threaten competition and national security. It is unclear if there is a real discrepancy between both front offices, but it has certainly fed the arguments of lawmakers seeking consolidation of the agencies.
