The Federal Trade Commission’s challenge to Meta/Within may already be in antitrust textbooks, but new reporting suggests the case made agency history too. The FTC’s designated ethics official says the case may represent the first time an agency employee rejected their recommendation not to participate in a matter involving a specific party. Former FTC chair Bill Kovacic told Bloomberg that ignoring this advice was like “playing with fire”. Also in Tipline, commissioner Alvaro Bedoya discloses backlash for his statement regarding a privacy case against Meta.
