Party like it's 1979: The Tipline for 8 February 2023
It has been 43 years since a US president used the word “antitrust” in the State of the Union. Back in 1979, President Jimmy Carter told Congress the country needed to improve and better enforce US antitrust law to fight inflation. Last night, President Biden called on Congress to “pass bipartisan legislation to strengthen antitrust enforcement and prevent big online platforms from giving their own products an unfair advantage". He also said his administration is banning non-compete agreements “so companies have to compete for workers and pay them what they're worth”.
