No tiebreaker needed: The Tipline for 1 July 2019
The Wimbledon tennis tournament begins today, but don’t expect any three-day matches – there is a new tiebreaker in the final set this year. With all five commissioners in place and voting, the Federal Trade Commission has its own tiebreaker. That comes in handy for the party-line splits among the commissioners lately, including the three-to-two divide over a report the agency issued to Congress last week on the use of section 5 to address generic drug price increases. In other interactions with Congress, Congressional Democrats wrote to both antitrust agencies urging a retrospective on a merger of student loan providers.
