It is an age-old reassurance that there are no dumb questions, but an executive from Booking.com is not so sure. At a previous deposition in the Department of Justice’s online search monopolisation case, Arjan Dijk refused to answer whether firms seek to maximise profits because it was a “stupid” and “condescending” question. He told Judge Amit Mehta yesterday that he stands by this testimony. “Does a human being need to breathe?” he said.
