On this day in 1911, the Supreme Court ordered Standard Oil to be disbanded after ruling that it had violated the Sherman Antitrust Act. Some argue that the Department of Justice should have imposed such a structural remedy on Microsoft in the case it brought 20 years ago – and that technology companies today might require the same medicine.
