The US antitrust agencies are caught in a rather lopsided game of tug of war up on Capitol Hill. Jim Jordan, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz lead a hearty group of Republican lawmakers seeking to pull the Biden Administration to the right on competition policy. Democrats have largely remained unified behind the president, but Senator Elizabeth Warren has again shown she is not afraid to pull to the left as a team of one, this time for the Department of Justice’s new safe harbour policy on mergers.
