Meta is using the Federal Trade Commission’s monopolisation lawsuit to justify getting hold of its rivals’ user stats. In a motion asking a Washington, DC, federal court for assistance in obtaining “documents and testimony” from Bytedance, Tencent and Telegram, the social media company claimed it needs their active user numbers and data about the amount of time that users spend on their applications “to help respond to the FTC’s allegations that Meta has any type of durable monopoly power”. Also in Tipline, app developers claim they are close to a settlement with Google and the Department of Justice fires a warning shot ahead of its third broiler chicken trial.
