It’s been a long week: The Tipline for 7 June 2019

If time can be measured in antitrust news stories, last Friday was more than seven days ago. Since that morning, we have had media reports that the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission divvied up four large technology companies for investigation; the House of Representatives’ judiciary committee announced its own probe, as the chair of the antitrust subcommittee said he lacked confidence in the agencies to do the job; and Apple, which tends to be the least targeted by popular complaints about tech overlords, got hit with that app developer lawsuit that the Supreme Court kept asking about during Apple v Pepper – complete with the in-the-alternative monopsony claim that Justice Brett Kavanaugh had suggested.
