Guidelines boom or bust: The Tipline for 1 September 2021
It’s been exactly one year since the Department of Justice said it was considering whether to revise its banking merger guidelines – but we have received no update yet on whether changes will be made. A lot has happened since then, including President Joe Biden’s call for the US antitrust agencies to also review their guidance on horizontal and vertical mergers. In today’s Tipline, progressive groups have urged the Federal Trade Commission to block Amazon’s proposed purchase of the film and television studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer “in order to slow Amazon’s growing dominance”.
