Google can hire 1,000 attorneys with the flip of a switch, but the Department of Justice might need to start passing around a hat to keep the lights on. Each tick of the clock brings us closer to a government shutdown set to begin after the stroke of midnight Saturday evening unless Congress does its job. DOJ attorney Kenneth Dintzer said the Antitrust Division would likely have to ask for a stay if his team is classified as “unessential”. Judge Amit Mehta said he was prepared to deny that stay to get them labelled as “essential”. Regardless of how the DOJ’s team is classified, there is a possibility they stop receiving pay stubs while the trial marches on.
