Former FTC official criticises Dems' "better deal" antitrust plan

A former director of the office of policy planning at the Federal Trade Commission criticised the Senate Democrats' call for a "21st century 'Trust Buster'" that would act as a competition advocate recommending investigations to the two antitrust agencies.

The Federal Trade Commission and House Judiciary Committee appear to be stuck in a stalemate regardless of whether their quarrel occurs in letters or public hearings. Pressed by Republican lawmakers about the FTC’s responses (or lack thereof) to various document demands, the commission’s director of congressional relations had very little to say. “I’m not able to provide that information today, but we're happy to continue talking to your staff,” Jeanne Bumpus said.
