Congressional Democrats continue to raise concerns about a buying spree by well-heeled companies amid the coronavirus pandemic. Yesterday, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced their plan to introduce a law that would ban certain deals, including those by private equity investors, for the duration of the economic consequences of the public health crisis. The federal antitrust agencies granted an early termination to one private equity deal on Monday – an investment by Roark Capital Group in restaurant chain The Cheesecake Factory, which describes itself as “a leader in experiential dining.”
