Teddy Roosevelt’s Republican party prided itself on using antitrust to go after robber barons in smoke-filled rooms. Many in today’s Republican party want to challenge executives planning mergers in woke-filled rooms. Soon-to-be House leadership has signalled probes of woke “cartels”, while Kroger and Albertsons felt the brunt of ire from Republican lawmakers last week. But at least one Democratic senator is questioning whether the grocers’ diversity goals are strong enough. Senator Cory Booker is asking whether the merging companies’ outside firms are led by people of colour or women.
