End of the FTC as we know it: The Tipline for 27 January 2023

The Federal Trade Commission may cease to exist as it does today if it continues down its current path, Christine Wilson has said. The FTC’s sole Republican commissioner told a largely chummy audience at George Mason University yesterday that there are some “shocking things” going on behind the scenes at the agency, suggesting that the Bureau of Competition may inevitably find its powers consolidated down the block at Main Justice. Also in Tipline, Dechert maps a rise in in-depth merger probes turning into litigation or abandonments and Senator Elizabeth Warren flags two pharmaceutical deals as potential concerns.
