Writing in support of states that pursued the appeal, the Department of Justice has asked the US Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that held American Express’s anti-steering rules didn’t violate antitrust laws, arguing that such provisions stifled price competition by inflating merchant fees and blocking cheaper rivals.
