Communications decency: The Tipline for 20 February 2020

Here at GCR USA we have been focused on the competition side of the Department of Justice’s review of the practices of market-leading online platforms, but the enforcer is also looking further afield. The agency is reviewing online platforms’ protections from content liability, attorney general William Barr said at a DOJ workshop yesterday. Panelists discussed the competition implications of changing those protections while US Naval Academy law professor Jeff Kosseff predicted that “there will be changes” to online platforms’ liability for user content. We also have updates on divestitures from packaging companies Liqui-Box and DS Smith in response to concerns about their proposed merger and on oversight of the DOJ’s consent decree with Ticketmaster.
