Big Beef backlash: The Tipline for 16 September 2021
Summer is supposed to be primetime for the beef industry, but antitrust is spoiling all the fun. Last week, the White House published a blog post blaming meatpackers for rising beef prices. Then, the American Antitrust Institute announced a beefed-up advocacy campaign. Now, a federal court in Minneapolis has ruled that the industry's so-called “Big Four” must face high-stakes price-fixing litigation brought by the private bar. Also in Tipline, a jury awards BASF $28.2 million for its anticompetitive licensing allegations against a rival chemicals manufacturer.
