Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes has said that it is time to break up the social media giant and has called on the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice to undo the platform’s acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. Those mergers went to the FTC for review, but assistant attorney general Makan Delrahim said this week that in sectors not covered by the 2002 clearance agreement between the agencies, the preferences of personnel can play a role in determining where a deal will land.
